Four regional health control rooms in Denmark are set to benefit from a new voice and data communication solution to be delivered by Frequentis with its partners Intergraph and IBM.

Using the new technology, the control rooms will be able to co-operate when dispatching emergency vehicles such as ambulances, mobile intensive care units and doctors’ vehicles. The system supports many additional functions, such as co-ordinating inputs from other health specialists (for example, nurses) when ambulances are dispatched. With the new system, the emergency medical services will operate more efficiently and vehicles and personnel will reach incidents faster.

The new equipment is due to be phased in between October 2012 and February 2013, but preparations are already being made to integrate it with the existing communication systems. For example, the new solution must connect to all existing 112 emergency centres and with the Danish national TETRA network, SINE.

At the core of the system is the Frequentis voice communication system ICCS 3020, which interconnects the four health control rooms. These centres, each with 15 workstations, are part of a countrywide system.

Also included is a geo-redundant control centre which doubles as a training system. Geo-redundancy means that the system has a full hardware backup, with components installed at a different location.
