Motorola was awarded a contract to deploy a public-safety communications network for Iceland. The contract is with Neydarlinan 112, a public company majority owned by the Icelandic government. The TETRA digital communications network will be used by all the emergency and public safety services in Iceland.  The contract covers the complete replacement of the analog systems currently used in Iceland. The users of the new network will include public safety agencies, power and other utilities operators, and the public and private transportation sectors. "We are proud to be driving the implementation of Iceland's national public-safety network, which will be crucial to the Icelandic government's new homeland-security measures being implemented to prepare for the departure of the U.S. forces that have traditionally provided civil protection services," said Thorhallur Olafsson, managing director of Neydarlinan 112....
